πŸ“„ Documents

Welcome to mendbuddy's Documents section! Here, you can upload files that our AI assistant, Buddy, will use to deliver fast, accurate answers. This guide outlines what file types are supported and how to format your documents so Buddy can understand them best.

πŸ“ Supported File Types

Buddy can process a wide variety of common file types, including:

  • PDF (.pdf)
  • Word Documents (.doc, .docx)
  • Text Files (.txt)
  • CSV Files (.csv)
  • HTML Files (.html)
  • PowerPoint Presentations (.pptx)
  • Code Files (.py, .js, .java, etc.)
  • Markdown Files (.md)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • EPUB Files (.epub)

Tip: Buddy is designed to extract and read text. Files made up mostly of images (e.g., scanned PDFs) may not be useful unless they've been converted using OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

βœ… Best Practices for Uploading

Follow these tips to help Buddy understand your documents clearly:

1. Use Selectable Text

  • Upload documents that contain actual text (not just images).
  • For image-based files (like scans), use OCR tools before uploading.

2. Keep Formatting Clear

  • Use headings, subheadings, bullet points, and numbered lists.
  • Keep language simple and structured.

3. Name Files Descriptively

  • Use clear, meaningful names like employee_handbook_2025.pdf.

4. Avoid Duplicates

  • Don't upload multiple versions of the same document unless necessary.

5. Keep Content Up to Date

  • Re-upload updated versions to ensure Buddy has the most current info.

πŸ”„ Document Handling

After uploading, your files are securely stored and used by Buddy to assist you with your queries.

⚠️ Note: Uploaded documents cannot be viewed or downloaded from within mendbuddy after uploading. If you need to review or replace the content, keep a copy stored locally.

πŸ› οΈ Troubleshooting

Having trouble uploading a document? Try the following:

  • βœ… Check the file format – Make sure it's one of the supported types.
  • βœ… Open it locally – If the file doesn't open on your device, it may be corrupted.
  • βœ… Reduce size – Split large documents into smaller sections if needed.

If you're still running into issues, feel free to contact support and we'll help you out.
