Welcome to mendbuddy's Sitemaps section! Here, you can add sitemap URLs that our AI assistant, Buddy, will use to discover and process multiple web pages efficiently. This guide outlines how to use sitemaps and best practices to ensure Buddy can effectively utilize the content.

🔗 What is a Sitemap?​

A sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs of a website, providing a roadmap of its structure. It helps search engines and tools like Buddy to crawl and index the site's content more intelligently.

📁 Supported Sitemap Formats​

Buddy can process standard XML sitemaps, including:

  • Standard Sitemaps: sitemap.xml files that list URLs.
  • Sitemap Index Files: XML files that reference multiple sitemap files.

Note: Ensure that the sitemap URLs are publicly accessible and do not require authentication.

✅ Best Practices for Adding Sitemaps​

To ensure Buddy can interpret and utilize your sitemaps effectively, follow these guidelines:

1. Use Publicly Accessible Sitemaps​

  • Ensure the sitemap URL does not require authentication or a login to access.
  • Avoid sitemaps behind paywalls or with restricted access.

2. Keep Sitemaps Updated​

  • Regularly update your sitemaps to reflect the current structure of your website.
  • Remove outdated or broken links to maintain accuracy.

3. Limit the Number of URLs​

  • While Buddy can process large sitemaps, consider limiting each sitemap to a manageable number of URLs (e.g., 50,000) to optimize performance.

4. Use Descriptive Titles​

  • When adding a sitemap, provide a clear and descriptive title to help identify the content.

🔄 Managing Your Sitemaps​

After adding, your sitemaps are stored securely within mendbuddy. You can:

  • Add – Include new sitemap URLs for Buddy to reference.
  • Update – Modify existing sitemaps if the content has changed.
  • Delete – Remove sitemaps that are no longer relevant.

⚠️ Note: Once added, the content from the sitemap is processed and stored. If the original web pages change, you'll need to update the sitemap in mendbuddy to reflect the new content.

  • Access Denied: Ensure the sitemap URL is publicly accessible without login requirements.
